REI Co-op Military & Veteran Discount
REI has no military or veteran discount — here’s the honest truth for 2026, plus how everyone actually saves: the $30 lifetime Co-op membership and its annual Member Reward.
Does REI offer a military discount? No. REI does not offer a military or veteran discount — there is no percentage off for active-duty members, veterans, retirees, Guard/Reserve, spouses, or dependents, and REI does not use ID.me, GovX, SheerID, or WeSalute for service-member verification. ID.me itself confirms it is "not aware that REI offers Military discounts," and REI’s own help center says the same.
That doesn’t mean there’s no way to save. REI is a co-op, and its savings come from a $30 one-time, lifetime membership that anyone can buy. Members earn an annual Co-op Member Reward — REI says ~10% back on eligible full-price purchases is typical but not guaranteed — plus member-only coupons, member sale pricing, free U.S. standard shipping, and access to Re/Supply used gear. For most service members and veterans who shop at REI, the membership plus the annual reward is the real "discount."
This is an independent guide. We’re not affiliated with REI, and REI controls its membership terms and can change them at any time. Always confirm current details on REI’s official pages before you buy.

WHO QUALIFIES
REI does not offer a military or veteran discount — its help center and ID.me both confirm there is no military program, and REI uses no ID.me, GovX, SheerID, or WeSalute military verification. Everyone saves the same way: a $30 lifetime Co-op membership that returns an annual Co-op Member Reward (REI says ~10% back is typical but not guaranteed) plus member coupons, sales, and Re/Supply used gear.
- REI has no military discount, so military status alone does not unlock an REI rate — there is no military percentage-off program and no military price on the Co-op membership.
- There is no eligible or ineligible military group to verify: active duty, veterans, retirees, Reserve/National Guard, and military spouses or dependents are all treated the same as any other shopper.
- REI does not publish a first responder, nurse, teacher, government-employee, or student discount either — the Co-op membership is the same offer for everyone.
- Anyone — including all of the above — can buy the $30 one-time, lifetime Co-op membership at the same price and earn the annual Co-op Member Reward on eligible full-price purchases.
- Separately, veterans and Gold Star families can get a free federal America the Beautiful Military Lifetime Pass for national parks, and active-duty members and dependents get a free annual military pass — a U.S. government program, not an REI offer.

HOW TO REDEEM
Online at www.rei.com
- There is no military discount to apply onlineREI does not offer a military or veteran discount, so there is no code or verification step to use at rei.com checkout. Any "REI military code" on a coupon site should be treated as inaccurate.
- Buy the $30 Co-op membershipJoin at rei.com/membership for a one-time, lifetime $30 fee (the same price for everyone — there is no military price). This is the core money-saver REI actually offers.
- Sign in when you shop so purchases earn your rewardSign in to your REI account at checkout so eligible full-price purchases accrue toward your annual Co-op Member Reward, and watch your email and account for member coupons and member sale events to apply.
- Redeem your annual Co-op Member RewardEach March, REI issues your Co-op Member Reward for the prior year’s eligible purchases. REI says ~10% back is typical but not guaranteed. Redeem it online, in store, or in the app.
In store
- There is no military discount at the registerREI has no military or veteran discount to apply in store. Member savings — the annual reward, member coupons, and Re/Supply used gear — apply equally to all members.
- Buy or look up your Co-op membershipBuy a $30 lifetime Co-op membership (one-time) or give your existing member number at checkout so the purchase counts toward your annual reward.
- Shop Re/Supply used gearBrowse the Re/Supply section for lower prices on gently used gear (and trade in your own for an REI gift card). Re/Supply is the year-round successor to REI’s old in-store Garage Sales.
- Redeem your reward and member couponsApply your annual Co-op Member Reward and any member coupons at the register.
HOW IT WORKS
REI’s membership is a flat $30 one-time, lifetime fee for everyone — there is no military tier or military price. Widely circulated claims of a "$20 military membership" appear only on aggregator sites; REI’s membership page lists a single $30 fee with no military discount, so we don’t present the $20 figure as fact.
The annual Co-op Member Reward is the main payoff. REI says it is typically around 10% back on eligible full-price purchases, but it is not guaranteed — it may be a Patronage Dividend, a Promotional Reward, or a combination, which REI determines each year and issues by March for the prior year. It is not earned on Outlet, sale, clearance, used gear, gift cards, classes/events, shipping, service fees, the membership fee, or tax.
Beyond the reward, members get periodic coupons and member offers, member sale pricing (the May Anniversary Sale is the headline event), free U.S. standard shipping, and Re/Supply — the year-round used-gear program that replaced REI’s in-store Garage Sales, where members buy gently used gear and trade in their own for an REI gift card.
One claim to ignore: aggregator sites also advertise a "10–20% military or bulk discount" through REI Corporate & Group Sales. REI’s Corporate & Group Sales page publishes no such terms, so we don’t assert it. Separately, veterans and Gold Star families can get a free federal America the Beautiful Military Lifetime Pass for national parks — useful for an outdoors audience, but a government program REI does not administer.
Exclusions & fine print
- No REI military or veteran discount exists, so any code or "military deal" claimed for REI on a coupon site should be treated as inaccurate.
- The "$20 military membership (20% off the $30 fee)" and the "10–20% military or corporate/bulk discount" seen on aggregator sites are NOT stated on any REI page — do not treat either as fact.
- The Co-op Member Reward (~10%) is "typical but not guaranteed" and is not earned on REI Outlet items, sale, clearance, discounted items, used gear, gift cards, REI classes and events, Intrepid Travel, shipping, service fees, the membership fee, REI Cooperative Action Fund donations, government-agency purchases, or sales tax.
- REI states it "may also change the benefits of lifetime membership" as its needs change.
- Memberships are non-refundable, non-transferable, and not giftable as a membership (you can gift a gift card instead).
- The free America the Beautiful Military Lifetime Pass is a U.S. government program, not an REI offer — REI does not issue or honor it as a store discount.
- Always confirm current terms on REI’s official membership pages before buying.

MORE MILITARY DISCOUNTS
All military & veteran discountsEditorial policy
- Source priority. We cite REI’s own help center ("Does REI offer a military discount?") and the ID.me REI shop page first, and report plainly that no REI military or veteran discount was found — ID.me states it is "not aware that REI offers Military discounts" and there is no military price on the Co-op membership. The $30 lifetime membership, the annual Co-op Member Reward (REI says ~10% back is typical but not guaranteed), member coupons and sales, and Re/Supply used gear are quoted from rei.com/membership and confirmed on the "Last verified" date above. We deliberately omit the "$20 military membership" and "10–20% military/bulk discount" figures circulating on aggregator sites because neither appears on any REI page; the free federal America the Beautiful Military Lifetime Pass is included as government-program context, not an REI offer.
- Independence. NavyWeek.org is not affiliated with the U.S. Navy, the Department of Defense, NAVCO, or any federal agency. We do not accept payment to recommend specific recruiters, schools, vendors, or services.
- Review cadence. Because REI Co-op can change these terms at any time, the offer is re-verified against the official page on a recurring basis and whenever a reader reports a change.
