The Home Depot Military & Veteran Discount
10% off full-priced, non-appliance merchandise — every day, year-round — for U.S. veterans, active duty, and spouses, in store and online.
The Home Depot gives U.S. veterans, active-duty service members, and their spouses 10% off full-priced, non-appliance merchandise — every day, year-round, both in stores and online. You verify your status once through the Home Depot app or website, and your eligibility is saved to your Home Depot account. In store, you pull up a virtual ID QR code in the app and scan it at the register; online, the discount applies automatically at checkout when you’re signed in.
A few things to know before you shop: appliances are excluded from the 10% (though eligible military shoppers can buy many appliances tax-free through a separate Military Exchange program), and the discount applies to full-priced items. Independent military-benefit sites also widely report a $400 maximum annual discount and a list of other exclusions (clearance, gift cards, lumber and other commodities, labor, delivery, tool rental) — but The Home Depot’s official terms page is not publicly machine-readable, so confirm the current cap and exclusions on Home Depot’s own military page before counting on them.
This is an independent guide to help you use the offer. We’re not affiliated with The Home Depot, and The Home Depot controls the terms and can change them at any time. Always confirm details on Home Depot’s official military discount page before you buy.

HOW TO REDEEM
Online at www.homedepot.com
- Log in to your Home Depot accountGo to homedepot.com (or open the Home Depot app) and sign in, or create a free account.
- Verify your military statusVisit the Military Discount page (homedepot.com/c/military) and select "Verify Military Status." Verification is reported to run through SheerID and may ask for your branch and supporting details.
- Status saves to your accountOnce verified, your military eligibility is stored on your Home Depot account, so you don’t re-verify on every visit.
- Shop signed inWhile logged in, the 10% discount applies automatically at checkout on eligible (full-priced, non-appliance) items. Ship to home or pick up in store.
In store
- Verify in advanceComplete the online verification so your military status is saved to your Home Depot account.
- Open the Home Depot appInstall the Home Depot app and sign in on your phone, then open your account profile.
- Pull up your virtual ID QR codeFind the Military Discount Program section and tap "Scan Virtual ID" to display your QR code. Screenshots or printouts are reported not to work — it must be live in the app.
- Scan at the registerShow the QR code at checkout and the associate applies the 10% to eligible items. A paper DD-214 or physical ID is reported to no longer be accepted at the register.
HOW IT WORKS
The discount is everyday and year-round. The Home Depot expanded it from a holidays-only veteran benefit to an everyday benefit for veterans, active duty, and spouses in December 2021, and its May 1, 2025 investor-relations release describes it as a "10% military discount on full-priced, non-appliance merchandise." Older pages that say veterans only get the discount on patriotic holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Veterans Day) are outdated.
Verification and redemption are app/account based. According to military-benefit publications, The Home Depot uses the third-party verifier SheerID during a one-time enrollment; your verified status is then saved to your Home Depot account. For in-store use you present a virtual ID QR code generated live in the app — screenshots and printouts are reported not to work, and a paper DD-214 or physical ID is reported to no longer be accepted at the register. Because Home Depot’s own military FAQ is JavaScript-rendered and didn’t return its terms to our fetch, we present the provider name and these mechanics as commonly reported and link to the official page to confirm.
Two caveats worth planning around. First, appliances are excluded from the 10% — but eligible military shoppers can buy many appliances tax-free through the separate Military Exchange program at ShopMyExchange.com or myNavyExchange.com, confirmed in Home Depot’s 2025 release. Second, military.com and The Military Wallet consistently report a $400 maximum annual discount (about the first $4,000 of eligible spend per calendar year); that cap is not confirmed on any Home Depot page we could read, so verify it before relying on it — and if you hit it, a comparable everyday 10% military discount at Lowe’s is a useful alternative.
Exclusions & fine print
- Appliances are excluded from the 10% discount (confirmed). Eligible military shoppers can instead buy many appliances tax-free through the separate Military Exchange program (ShopMyExchange.com / myNavyExchange.com).
- The discount applies to full-priced merchandise (confirmed) — so generally not clearance or already-reduced items.
- Commonly reported but NOT confirmed on Home Depot’s own readable page: a $400 maximum annual discount that resets each calendar year (≈ the first $4,000 of eligible spend).
- Commonly reported additional exclusions (not officially confirmed): gift cards, freight/delivery, installation and other labor, value-priced/clearance items, tool rental fees, commodity products (lumber, wire, building materials), and manufacturer-restricted goods.
- Reported as personal-use only (no commercial credit card or job number) and generally non-stackable with other discounts such as a Pro/contractor discount, though it may combine with a storewide deal — officially unconfirmed.
- Terms here reflect homedepot.com (United States). The Home Depot Canada and Mexico are separate sites with separate terms.
