Pep Boys Military & Veteran Discount
10% off in-store for military, veterans, and first responders — plus a Wednesday oil-change special.
Yes — Pep Boys gives active-duty, reserve, retired, and veteran service members across every branch, plus police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and 911 dispatchers, 10% off in-store, every day. Show a valid military, veteran, or first-responder ID at the counter; there’s no app or online verification to set up. Pep Boys was founded by Navy veterans in 1921, and the everyday discount is backed by a Wednesday oil-change special — about 50% (up to $50) off a synthetic oil change — that is the best deal most drivers will get.
The one thing to know before you go: the 10% doesn’t combine with coupons or promos. So on an oil change or a set of tires, compare the 10% against whatever public coupon is running and take the bigger one — you can’t use both. The discount is in-store only, not on PepBoys.com.
This is an independent guide from NavyWeek. We’re not affiliated with Pep Boys, and Pep Boys sets and can change these terms at any time (the current offer shows a 12/31/26 expiration).

Time your oil change to a Wednesday — then never stack the 10%.
Pep Boys’ flat 10% can’t combine with coupons, so a live public coupon often beats it. But the Wednesday oil-change special beats both.
- For an oil change, book it on a Wednesday and ask for the military oil-change special (~50% / up to $50 off) instead of the 10%.
- Any other day, check "Coupons & Specials" on pepboys.com and take the larger of the coupon or the flat 10% — they don’t stack.
- On tires or repairs, compare 10% on the parts (install labor is excluded) against the live tire/service promo and take the bigger.
- Add a manufacturer rebate (tire or oil maker) — the one combination Pep Boys allows on top of your discount.
- Enroll in free Pep Boys Rewards (PepBucks); it accrues no matter which discount you use.
Wednesday wording varies by store (50% off vs. $50 off) — confirm the exact special locally before booking.
BEST SAVINGS PATH
The smartest route depends on your situation. Answer the two questions to find your best path, or scan the full decision table below.
One synthetic oil change (~$89.99 list, in-store, pre-tax)
| Path | Stack | Effective price | You save | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Military 10% (any day, non-Wednesday) | No stacking | ~$80.99 | ~$9 | You need service any day and no bigger public coupon is live. |
| Military Wednesday oil-change special (~50% / up to $50 off) | No stacking | ~$40–$45 | ~$45–$50 | You can schedule the oil change on a Wednesday — the winner for this cart. |
| Public coupon (e.g., "$25 off synthetic oil change") | No stacking with the military 10% | ~$65 | ~$25 | Non-Wednesday oil change and the coupon beats the flat 10%. |
| Text-alert sign-up (30% off next oil change) | No stacking | ~$63 | ~$27 | One-time; you haven’t used it yet. |
| Pep Boys Rewards (PepBucks) | Earns on top of any discount | list − points earned | ~1% back | Always enroll (free) — it accrues regardless of which discount you use. |

- Retired military and veterans with a valid military or veteran ID.
- First responders — police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and 911 dispatchers with a valid first-responder ID.

HOW TO REDEEM
Online at www.pepboys.com
- You can’t redeem the military discount onlineThe 10% discount is in-store only and is explicitly void on PepBoys.com. Online, Pep Boys allows just one promo code per order and no military discount.
- Price-shop parts online, redeem in storeUse PepBoys.com to compare parts and book service, then present your ID at the counter to claim the discount in person.
In store
- Book service or walk inSchedule service online or visit any Pep Boys location.
- Tell the associate at checkoutLet the associate know you’re using the military/veteran or first-responder discount before they ring you up.
- Present your IDShow a valid military, veteran, or first-responder ID at time of purchase — there is no ID.me, GovX, or SheerID account to set up.
- Pick the right offerThe 10% comes off eligible in-store products and services. On Wednesdays, ask specifically for the military oil-change special instead of the flat 10%.
HOW IT WORKS
Pep Boys expanded and published this military and first-responder discount on March 11, 2025: a flat 10% off in-store for active, reserve, retired, and veteran service members of all branches, plus first responders, verified with a physical ID at the register — no ID.me, GovX, SheerID, or WeSalute account required.
The catch that makes this discount worth understanding is the no-stacking rule. The 10% cannot be combined with any other offer, coupon, rebate, discount, or promotion — the sole exception being manufacturer rebates (for example, a tire-maker mail-in rebate can ride on top). Because Pep Boys runs frequent public oil-change and tire coupons that also can’t be added to the 10%, the practical move on any given cart is to use the single largest applicable discount, not a stack.
For the most common purchase — an oil change — the biggest recurring win is the Wednesday oil-change special, roughly 50% (up to $50) off a synthetic oil change in the continental U.S. Note the source wording differs slightly: the press release says "50% off Conventional and Platinum Synthetic Oil Changes every Wednesday," while the current terms page reads "$50 off Pennzoil Full Synthetic Oil Change, valid Wednesdays only." Confirm the exact live wording with your local store before booking.
Because Pep Boys controls the terms and can change them at any time, treat the numbers here as a starting point and confirm the current offer on Pep Boys’ official Military Commitment page before you buy.
Exclusions & fine print
- Not valid on PepBoys.com purchases, gift cards, or installations (including product installation labor).
- Not valid on special-order, commercial, fleet, warranty, or road-hazard-adjusted tires.
- Cannot be combined with other offers, rebates, discounts, or promotions — the only exception is manufacturer rebates.
- Wednesday oil-change special is continental U.S. only; oil filter up to $4.99 included, with an extra charge above 5 quarts.
- The current terms page shows a 12/31/26 expiration — re-verify after that date.
- An older Pep Boys policy page still lists a stale 5% figure; the current, expanded offer is 10%.
