There’s a catch worth knowing up front: the savings are delivered through a paid WeSalute+ membership. Once you enroll and verify your service, WeSalute+ assigns you an Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number, which you add to your reservation on avis.com to unlock the rate. "Up to 35%" is a ceiling, not a guarantee — it applies only to time-and-mileage on Pay Now rates and excludes taxes, fees, and add-ons.

Book before you travel
Enroll in WeSalute+, obtain your AWD number, and make a reservation that includes it — an advance reservation is recommended and some rates and locations require one.
Present your reservation at the counter
WeSalute states the rate can also be used at the counter and by phone using your AWD number. Bring a valid driver’s license and meet Avis age, driver, and credit requirements.
Confirm before you sign
Check that the discount is reflected; it applies to time-and-mileage charges only, not taxes, fees, or optional products.

HOW IT WORKS

Verification is handled by WeSalute, not by ID.me, GovX, or SheerID. You enroll in the paid WeSalute+ tier and verify your military status; WeSalute issues a secure WeSalute+ ID so you don’t share your military ID directly with each merchant, and assigns the personal Avis AWD number used to apply the rate. Treat WeSalute+ as an ongoing paid membership and confirm its current cost before relying on it.

The headline rate is a maximum. Avis publishes only "up to 35%" (with a stated minimum of 5% in Canada and up to 20% in other international regions), and the actual savings vary by location, dates, and car group. WeSalute itself advises comparing the member rate against current public "Pay Now" rates on avis.com before applying the AWD.

A separate WeSalute enhancement — a complimentary Avis Preferred Plus upgrade and $15 off when you spend $175+ on a 3-or-more-day rental — is listed by WeSalute as valid until June 30, 2026; re-verify that promotion and the headline percentage after that date. There is no free public Avis military AWD code: the AWD is assigned to your membership, and codes circulated on coupon sites (such as "T765700") are not confirmed on Avis’s or WeSalute’s own pages.
