- Compare the routesMWR/ITT pricing is set by the base office and GovX is a closed marketplace — compare both to any public promo or membership, and take the lowest.

- Show your valid active military IDPresent it at the turnstile to receive your complimentary 1-Day Pass, which includes the Africa Tram Safari.
- Dependents: show a dependent ID for 10% offActive-duty spouses and immediate dependents get 10% off the 1-Day Pass at any ticket window with a valid dependent ID.
- Buy tickets for your guestsThe free pass covers the service member only — everyone 3 and older with you needs their own ticket or membership.
HOW IT WORKS
For the active-duty free pass and the dependent 10%, verification is simply showing your military or dependent ID at the park — there’s no online account to set up. Academy cadets and reserves on active orders qualify for the free pass even if their ID doesn’t read "Active."
The accuracy point most pages blur: the free or complimentary admission is active-duty only, and dependents get 10%. Veterans and retirees are not eligible for a direct gate discount. Their routes are base MWR/ITT ticket offices, which set their own package pricing, or the GovX marketplace, which sells discounted Safari Park tickets to verified military (including veterans) and first responders after an online verification.
Don’t conflate the Safari Park in Escondido with the separate San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park — they’re run by the same alliance under the same military policy, but they’re different parks, so check each one’s ticket window. City-wide San Diego military promotions come and go year to year, so re-verify seasonally.
Exclusions & fine print
- The free admission is for the active-duty member only; guests 3 and older need their own ticket or membership.
- Veterans and retirees get no direct gate discount — the routes are base MWR/ITT offices or the GovX marketplace.
- The dependent 10% is a standalone gate discount and is not stacked on other promotions.
- GovX is a closed marketplace and MWR/ITT pricing is set on base — compare, don’t combine; you can’t add a gate coupon on top.
- Gate prices and city-wide military promos change seasonally — confirm before you go.
- The Safari Park (Escondido) and the San Diego Zoo (Balboa Park) are separate parks under the same alliance and policy.
