ABOUT THE BLUE ANGELS

The Blue Angels are the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration squadron — the second-oldest formal aerobatic team in the world, flying since 1946. Today the team flies six F/A-18 Super Hornets in formations as tight as 18 inches apart, supported by "Fat Albert," a Marine Corps C-130J that opens most shows. The squadron is home-based at NAS Pensacola, Florida, where it practices over the National Naval Aviation Museum most weeks of the season, and winters at NAF El Centro, California.

A typical demonstration runs about 45 minutes and pairs the four-jet Diamond formation with two Solo pilots flying the high-speed passes — including the famous sneak pass that arrives before you hear it. The team performs at roughly 30 shows a year, reaching around 11 million spectators.

How the schedule gets made: air show organizers apply years in advance through the Department of Defense aerial events program, and the team announces its lineup each December at the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) convention. The following season’s preliminary schedule is typically public more than a year out, and dates do shift — historically two to four changes per season for weather, maintenance, or funding reasons.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Show organizers submit requests through the DoD aerial events process up to two years ahead. The team balances geography, recruiting priorities, and anniversary events — 2026 leans heavily into America 250 celebrations.

Rarely — the two teams normally keep at least 150 miles apart to maximize recruiting reach. 2026 is an exception: both teams headline the NAS Jacksonville Air Show on October 17–18, a marquee event of the 250th-birthday season.

Shows hosted on military bases (Miramar, Oceana, Cherry Point, NAS Jax, Pensacola) and most beach and waterfront shows are free. Civilian airport shows — including all Air Dot Show tour stops — are ticketed. Each city guide above gives the straight answer.

Flyover requests go through the official Blue Angels and Navy aerial events channels, not the squadron directly — and they’re reserved for events of national significance.

The preliminary 2027 lineup was announced in December 2025 alongside the 2026 update; the confirmed version drops at ICAS in December 2026.

Also performing across the country this year: the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, whose 2026 tour covers 31 stops of its own.

Editorial policy

  • Source priority. We cite the official U.S. Navy Blue Angels schedule and each host show's announcements first. Dates, show names, and locations are quoted from those sources and dated above.
