JetBlue Military & Veteran Discount
5% off base fares plus free checked bags — 2 for leisure, up to 5 for duty/PCS. Active-duty book with a DOD CAC; veterans via paid WeSalute+. Phone/chat only, never online.
JetBlue offers one of the more generous standing military benefits among U.S. airlines, and it is confirmed on JetBlue’s own Military and Veteran Customers page: a 5% discount off base fares plus free checked bags. Active-duty service members traveling for leisure get 2 free checked bags (up to 50 lbs each); those traveling on orders or PCS get up to 5 free checked bags (up to 99 lbs each) — for themselves and dependents on the same itinerary.
The most important thing to know: you cannot book this discount online or at the airport. You have to contact JetBlue by phone or chat and have an agent apply it. Active-duty travelers verify with a DOD Common Access Card (plus travel orders for duty travel). Veterans and retirees get the same 5% + 2 free bags, but only through a paid WeSalute+ membership (formerly Veterans Advantage) — you provide your WeSalute+ Member ID when you book.
For most travelers the free checked bags are worth more than the 5% fare cut, especially on a PCS move. This is an independent guide — we’re not affiliated with JetBlue or WeSalute, and terms, fares, and bag fees can change at any time. Always confirm on JetBlue’s official site before you book.

WHO QUALIFIES
JetBlue gives U.S. active-duty military 5% off base fares plus free checked bags (2 for leisure, up to 5 for duty/PCS travel); veterans and retirees get the same 5% + 2 free bags only through a paid WeSalute+ membership. The discount must be booked by phone or chat — it is not available online or at the airport.
- Active-duty service members — eligible directly for 5% off base fare + free checked bags, verified with a DOD Common Access Card (plus travel orders for duty/PCS travel).
- Dependents and immediate family — eligible when on the same reservation as the active-duty member for leisure travel; for duty travel they may travel on a separate reservation with a Military Dependent ID.
- National Guard and Reserve members — named among those JetBlue is honored to support; those on active-duty orders qualify directly by showing a DOD CAC. Otherwise the veteran/WeSalute+ path applies — confirm your status when you call.
- Veterans and former service members — eligible for the same 5% + 2 free checked bags, but ONLY through a paid WeSalute+ membership (formerly Veterans Advantage); you provide your WeSalute+ Member ID when you book.
- Retired military — same as veterans: the benefit is available only via a paid WeSalute+ membership.
- Federal government travelers — served by a separate GSA/DG government-fare program (refundable fares, U.S. government travel card required), which is NOT the individual military discount.
- First responders, teachers, nurses, and students — not covered by JetBlue’s military and veteran page; no standing fare discount is advertised for these groups.

| Active-duty military (duty / PCS) — orders + DOD CACUp to 5 free checked bags (up to 99 lbs each) for the member and dependents on the same itinerary; dependents may travel on a separate reservation with a Military Dependent ID. HOW TO REDEEM
Online at www.jetblue.com
- Do not book online — the discount is not available on jetblue.comJetBlue states the military/WeSalute+ discount is not available for online bookings and cannot be applied at the airport. There is no online military code or checkout button — booking online forfeits the discount entirely.
- Contact JetBlue by phone or chatCall 1-800-JETBLUE (1-800-538-2583) or use JetBlue’s Contact Us chat and ask for the military/veteran discount so an agent can apply it to your reservation.
- Active-duty: verify with your DOD Common Access CardHave your DOD Common Access Card ready (plus travel orders if traveling for duty/PCS). The agent applies 5% off the base fare and adds your free checked bags — 2 for leisure, up to 5 for duty travel.
- Veterans/retirees: give your WeSalute+ Member IDEnroll in WeSalute+ (paid; a 30-day trial is available), then identify yourself as a WeSalute+ subscriber and provide your Member ID. The agent applies 5% off base fare + 2 free checked bags (up to 50 lbs each).
- Book early — MIL fares can sell outThe MIL fare (fare basis MIL01) is nonrefundable and does not have last-seat availability — it is tied to a single fare class (M, R, or V) and can disappear on a flight even when other seats remain.
HOW IT WORKS
The honest core fact: the biggest, most reliable dollar win is the free-baggage waiver, not the 5% fare cut. On a $300 base fare, 5% is only about $15, while free checked bags can be worth ~$85 or more round-trip for leisure — and $180+ on a duty/PCS move with multiple or overweight bags. JetBlue’s own page states the waiver plainly: 2 free bags (≤50 lbs) for leisure, up to 5 free bags (≤99 lbs) for duty travel.
Active-duty members get the benefit directly. You verify with a DOD Common Access Card at booking (plus travel orders for duty/PCS travel), and dependents on the same reservation share the benefit for leisure travel — for duty travel they can travel on a separate reservation with a Military Dependent ID. Veterans and retirees get the identical 5% + 2 free bags, but only through a paid WeSalute+ membership; WeSalute (not JetBlue) verifies your status, and JetBlue applies the discount against your WeSalute+ Member ID.
A common miss on coupon and aggregator pages: they blur the individual member discount (5% + bags, booked by phone) with JetBlue’s separate GSA/DG government fares — a contract program for federal travelers paying with a U.S. government travel card. They also imply veterans get 5% off for free; in reality the veteran path is gated behind a paid WeSalute+ membership. And most of all, there is no online promo code: the benefit exists only when a JetBlue agent applies it by phone or chat.
Exclusions & fine print
- The 5% applies to base fare only — it does not apply to taxes, surcharges, other fees, or baggage/other charges.
- Not combinable with JetBlue Vacations packages, TrueBlue award flights, or partner-airline (other-airline-operated) flights.
- Booking channel is restricted: phone or chat only — the discount is not available online and cannot be applied at the airport.
- MIL fares are nonrefundable and do not have last-seat availability (tied to M/R/V fare class), so they can sell out on a given flight even when other seats remain.
- The free-checked-bag waiver is subject to weight/size limits and has exceptions for segments marketed or operated by other airlines (codeshare/interline legs may not all qualify).
- The veteran/retiree benefit requires a paid WeSalute+ membership — it is not a free stack on veteran status, and the membership fee applies (a 30-day trial converts to paid).
