HOW IT WORKS
Verification is entirely in person at the front gate with a valid Military ID — there is no ID.me, GovX, or online military code to apply. For the Month of the Military Child program and the November Zoo Salutes window, the same Military ID is shown on the date of visit.
One thing to keep straight: some aggregators round the benefit up or imply "military free admission" year-round. That’s not accurate. The verified everyday benefit is $5 off admission — free admission is limited to the seasonal events (military children in April and members/veterans during the November Zoo Salutes window). Don’t expect year-round free entry.
The family benefit is also often overstated. It is not free family admission; it is a 50%-off upgrade on Standard/Any Day admission that is tied to the April Military Child program. The zoo’s own wording puts the family cap at three (Military Child page) to four (a social post) members, so confirm at the gate.
For the best value, time your visit: April (military kids free plus family 50% off) or a November Zoo Salutes window (members/veterans free) both beat the everyday $5. If you’ll return often, price an annual membership, which amortizes below per-visit admission. On any other day, just bring your Military ID for the easy $5 off.
