Northern Tool + Equipment Military & Veteran Discount
10% off in stores for active duty, retirees, and veterans with a valid military ID (max $500, excludes Stihl/gift cards) — no online military discount, so we map the best online path.
Northern Tool + Equipment gives active-duty members, retirees, and veterans a 10% military discount — but only in stores. Show a valid military ID at the register and you’ll get 10% off most of the store, up to a $500 maximum discount. It excludes Stihl products and gift cards and can’t be combined with any other offer.
The important catch: there’s no military discount online. Northern Tool isn’t an ID.me partner, and any "online military code" you see on a coupon site is unverified. If you’re buying online, your best bet is a public promo code or clearance — anyone can use those, and the military discount wouldn’t apply online anyway.
This is an independent guide — we’re not affiliated with Northern Tool + Equipment or ID.me, and Northern Tool controls the discount and can change it at any time. Confirm the current terms on Northern Tool’s official military-discount page before you shop.

HOW TO REDEEM
Online at www.northerntool.com
- There is no military discount onlineNorthern Tool’s military discount is in-store only. It is not an ID.me partner, and any "online military code" you see on a coupon site is unverified — ID.me itself confirms it is not aware of a Northern Tool military offer.
- Use a public promo code insteadOnline, your best lever is the best current public promo code (e.g. $20 off $100) — open to everyone. These exclude Honda and STIHL products and can’t be combined with other promotional offers.
- Check clearance and deal-of-the-dayNorthern Tool runs public clearance and deal-of-the-day markdowns, plus occasional free e-gift-card promos on qualifying orders. On a clearance item the public price often beats a 10% discount outright.
In store
- Shop at any Northern Tool + Equipment storeThe 10% military discount exists only in stores — plan to buy in person to use it.
- Present a valid military ID at the registerShow a valid military ID at the time of purchase. Verification is a physical ID in-store — there is no ID.me, SheerID, or online account.
- Receive 10% off, up to a $500 discountYou get 10% off most of the store, up to a $500 maximum discount, excluding Stihl products and gift cards. The 10% is most valuable on big-ticket carts — the $500 cap equals 10% of a $5,000 purchase — so batch large tool/equipment buys into one in-store trip.
HOW IT WORKS
Verification is a physical military ID shown in-store — there’s no ID.me, SheerID, or online account. Because the discount is in-store only, there’s no online verification path at all. ID.me’s own shop page states it is "not aware that Northern Tool offers Military discounts," and Military.com lists redemption as in-store only with a valid military ID presented at the time of purchase.
Aggregators embellish the real 10% in-store discount with claims primary sources don’t support: an online "unique discount code," ID.me or SheerID verification, and blanket family-member eligibility. We don’t assert any of those. The verified rule set is narrow — 10% in-store, physical military ID, $500 maximum discount, no Stihl or gift cards, and non-combinable.
The 10% reaches full value only up to a ~$5,000 cart (the $500 cap), so it pays to batch major purchases — a generator, welder, or pressure washer — into one in-store trip. Online, where the military discount doesn’t exist, the levers are public promo codes (e.g. $20 off $100) and clearance, which are open to everyone; on an already-reduced item the public price frequently beats 10%.
