Princess Cruises Military & Veteran Discount (Onboard Credit)
Free onboard spending money — $50, $100, or $250 per qualified passenger by cruise length — verified once through SheerID, attached to every future booking, and stackable on most fares.
Princess Cruises doesn’t do a military fare — it does something arguably better: free onboard spending money on every cruise, for life. Verify once (through SheerID for U.S. personnel) and Princess credits $50, $100, or $250 per qualified military passenger — by cruise length — to any current booking and every future one automatically. Active duty, National Guard and Reserves, retirees (20 years, medical, or 100% disabled), veterans with an honorable discharge plus 2+ years of service or 6 months in a war zone, and Canadian National Defense members all qualify, up to two per booking.
Because it’s onboard credit rather than a rate, it stacks: book Princess’s cheapest public sale fare and the credit still applies — and if anyone in your cabin holds 100 or more Carnival Corporation shares, the separate shareholder credit ($50–$250 per stateroom) currently combines with it on the same booking. Just apply at least 14 days before you sail.

Book the cheapest public sale fare — the military credit stacks on top of it
Princess’s military benefit is onboard credit, not a rate, and its terms say it’s combinable with most fares and with other onboard-credit offers. So never shop for a "military fare" — take the lowest public price and layer the credit on it.
- Verify once at Princess’s SheerID military portal (free Captain’s Circle number required) — do it now, at least 14 days before any sailing.
- Book the cheapest public/sale fare on princess.com for your itinerary; the credit auto-attaches to this and every future booking.
- If anyone in the cabin holds 100+ Carnival Corp (CCL) shares, claim the separate shareholder credit ($50–$250 per stateroom) via the Stockperks app at least 3 weeks before departure — it currently combines with the military credit on the same booking.
The military + shareholder combination has flipped before (Princess announced ending it in June 2023, then reversed) — re-confirm when you book. Princess also excludes undefined "Travel Agent fares" and casino spending; taxes, fees, and port expenses are never reduced.
BEST SAVINGS PATH
The smartest route depends on your situation. Answer the two questions to find your best path, or scan the full decision table below.
Find your best path
1. Do you meet the proof bar — active duty, Guard/Reserve, retiree (20 years, medical, or 100% disabled), or veteran with an honorable discharge plus 2+ years served or 6 months in a war zone?
2. Does anyone in your cabin own 100+ Carnival Corp (CCL) shares?
Verify once through SheerID, then book the cheapest public fare on princess.com — the military onboard credit ($50–$250 per qualified passenger by cruise length) layers on top, and 100+ CCL shares adds a shareholder credit to the same booking.
Both credits currently post to the same booking — $300 in onboard money on a 7-day for a qualifying couple, on top of any sale fare.
Verify once via SheerID (14+ days out) and the credit follows you onto whatever fare you book — there’s no either/or with the sale.
The shareholder benefit doesn’t require military status — 100+ CCL shares still adds $50–$250 per stateroom via Stockperks.
Without the proof bar or shares, the honest play is Princess’s public sales plus portal cashback on a direct online booking.
| Path | Stack | Effective price | You save | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Military OBC (SheerID, direct booking) | Layers on most fares, incl. public sales — $100/person on a 7-day, up to 2 members per booking | $1,598 ($1,798 − $200 OBC) | $200 | Always — it’s guaranteed, year-round, on any eligible fare once you’re verified. |
| Military OBC + Carnival Corp shareholder OBC | Both post to the same booking — Princess’s terms allow combining with other OBC offers (currently) | $1,498 ($1,798 − $300) | $300 | You or a co-traveler hold 100+ CCL shares — claim via Stockperks at least 3 weeks out. |
| Military OBC + TopCashback 3% | Portal click-through on a direct princess.com booking; cashback pays only after you sail | ~$1,544 ($1,798 − $200 − ~$54 post-cruise) | ~$254 | You book online direct — treat cashback as a bonus (tracking isn’t guaranteed), never the plan. |
| Public sale fare alone (no verification) | None — no onboard credit | Sale price, $0 OBC | Fare drop only | You can’t meet the proof bar (e.g., under 2 years served with no war-zone time). |
| Casino / Princess Players fare | The military OBC is "combinable with most cruise fares" but restrictions apply — and the credit can’t pay casino charges | Often the cheapest base fare | Varies | You hold a casino offer — confirm the military credit attaches before counting on it. |

WHO QUALIFIES
Princess Cruises gives qualified military members free onboard credit — $50, $100, or $250 per person by cruise length, up to two members per booking — verified once through SheerID and attached to every future booking, on top of most fares.
- Active-duty members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves.
- Military retirees with a minimum of 20 years of service, a medical retirement, or 100% disabled status.
- Veterans with an honorable discharge and either a minimum of 2 years of service or 6 months in an active war zone (or an educational discharge within 90 days of normal separation) — proof is a DD214, WD AGO, or NAVPERS plus current photo ID. Not every veteran qualifies automatically.
- Canadian National Defense members, active or retired (CF1FC "CAS" card or VAC Health Identification Card; Canada applies by form rather than SheerID).
- Spouses and dependents do not receive a credit of their own — the benefit goes only to the qualified military passenger, maximum two per booking. In practice family in the same stateroom shares the spending money, since it posts to the folio.
- First responders and Gold Star families are not included in this program.
| Audience | Discount |
|---|---|
| Qualified military passengers — cruises of 6 days or lessFixed spending money credited to the stateroom folio, not a fare discount. Up to two military members per booking, full credit each. | $50 onboard credit per person |
| Qualified military passengers — cruises of 7 to 13 daysA qualifying couple on a 7-day sailing collects $200 total. Issued in the ship’s operational currency (e.g., AUD on Australia-based sailings). | $100 onboard credit per person |
| Qualified military passengers — cruises of 14 days or moreThe biggest tier — $500 for a qualifying couple. Worth weighing when comparing one 14-day itinerary against two 7-day cruises ($200/couple total). | $250 onboard credit per person |
HOW TO REDEEM
Online at www.princess.com
- Book any eligible Princess cruiseA public sale fare is fine — the military credit is onboard credit, not a rate, and Princess states it is combinable with most cruise fares. Book the cheapest fare you can find; the benefit layers on top.
- Get a free Captain’s Circle numberRegister for Princess’s free Captain’s Circle loyalty program on princess.com if you don’t already have a member number — SheerID verification is tied to it.
- Verify once through SheerID — at least 14 days before departureUse the SheerID military verification portal linked from Princess’s Military Benefit Program page. It’s a one-time check for U.S. personnel; the 14-days-before-departure deadline is the most common way people lose the credit. (Canadian members instead submit the Military Personnel Benefit PDF with proof — SSN crossed out — by email to militarybenefit@princesscruises.com, by fax to 1-661-753-1394, or by mail.)
- Approval attaches the credit — for lifeRequests are processed within about 7 days. The credit then appears in Cruise Personalizer on current bookings and attaches to all future bookings automatically — you never re-verify.
HOW IT WORKS
The benefit is fixed onboard credit, not a percentage off the fare — so any site marketing a "Princess military discount — up to 40–50% off" is describing sale fares or paid-membership marketing, not the military program. Princess’s own program pays $50 on cruises of 6 days or less, $100 on 7–13 days, and $250 on 14 days or more, per qualified passenger, guaranteed year-round on any eligible sailing. Up to two military members per booking each receive the full credit, so a qualifying couple on a 7-day sailing collects $200 in spending money regardless of what fare they booked.
Verification is a one-time event. U.S. personnel verify through SheerID, tied to a free Captain’s Circle account — once approved, the credit auto-applies to current bookings and attaches to all future ones, visible in Cruise Personalizer. Accepted proof includes a DD214 (or WD AGO / NAVPERS) plus current photo ID for veterans, or a military verification certificate for active duty. Canadian National Defense members use a PDF form by email, fax, or mail instead. Either way, apply no later than 14 days before departure; requests are handled within about 7 days. Questions go to Princess at 1-800-774-6237.
The stacking is what sets Princess apart. Its terms state the offer "is combinable with other Onboard Credit offers" and "combinable with most cruise fares" — so the right move is never to hunt for a special military rate, but to book the cheapest public fare you can find and let the credit follow you onto it. That combinability currently extends to the Carnival Corporation shareholder benefit: 100+ CCL shares adds $50–$250 more per stateroom (same length tiers, claimed through the Stockperks app at least 3 weeks before departure, currently offered on sailings through December 31, 2026). One honest caveat: Princess announced in June 2023 that the military and shareholder credits would stop combining, then reversed course — the rule has flipped before, so re-confirm when you book.
Know the fine print on spending it: the credit posts to your stateroom folio and covers things like specialty dining, the spa, shore excursions, and shops — but it cannot be used for casino credits or charges, and it’s non-refundable, so unused credit is forfeited. Princess doesn’t state whether it can pay crew appreciation (gratuities), so don’t plan on that without confirming onboard. The stated fare-side exclusion is "Travel Agent fares," a term Princess doesn’t define — if you book through an agent, ask them to confirm the military credit attaches rather than assuming either way.
Exclusions & fine print
- Apply no later than 14 days before your departure date or that sailing won’t get the credit; processing takes up to 7 days.
- Maximum two military members per booking receive the credit; a third qualifying member in the same booking gets nothing. The offer is non-transferable.
- The credit is non-refundable use-it-or-lose-it spending money — unused onboard credit is forfeited at the end of the cruise.
- It cannot be used for casino credits or charges. That is the only spending exclusion Princess states — whether it can pay crew appreciation (gratuities) is not addressed either way in the official terms, so confirm onboard before counting on it.
- Princess’s terms say the offer is "combinable with most cruise fares. Some restrictions apply" and that it "excludes Travel Agent fares" — Princess does not define which fares those are or publish the excluded list, so confirm the credit attaches to your specific fare (especially casino or other special fares) before relying on it.
- It is spending money, not a fare discount — it does not reduce the cruise fare, taxes, fees, or port expenses, and it is issued in the ship’s operational currency (e.g., AUD on Australia-based sailings).
