HOW IT WORKS
The FAQ language is precise and worth honoring: 15% off for "all active or retired members of the US Armed Forces," valid through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on 12/31/2026, redeemable in store with a military ID or online with a promotion code. Two things the FAQ does not say: it does not explicitly name veterans (separated, non-retired), spouses, or dependents, and it does not state a "$60 maximum discount." That cap appears only on aggregators — treat it as unverified.
The exclusions list is substantial: the Disney Collection, Modern Eras, Create Your Own, Ultimate Collections, the Doll Care Center, salon experiences, parties, dining and food, event tickets, gift cards, gift wrap, and shipping/processing and sales tax are all outside the 15%. The discount is one per household and can’t be combined with other offers, so it’s an either/or against a live sale price.
The tax-free Exchange path is a genuine alternative. The Navy Exchange carries a curated American Girl assortment at about a dozen locations, and select AAFES and MCX locations sell the 14.5-inch dolls — all sales-tax-free. For an excluded line like Create Your Own, or where no promotion code applies, the Exchange (or a public American Girl sale on retiring items) often beats the 15%.
