Fleet Week San Diego 2026
The dates for America’s original fleet week — free ship tours at Broadway Pier, the Sea & Air Parade on San Diego Bay, STEM days, and the best places to watch along the Embarcadero.
Fleet Week San Diego is the country’s original fleet week and, fittingly, one of its most Navy-centric — the sea services are woven into the identity of a city where the Navy is the largest employer. The 2026 celebration runs November 6–15, spread across the bayfront and citywide, and centers on free public ship tours and military displays at Broadway Pier on the closing weekend, November 13–15, alongside a Sea & Air Parade on San Diego Bay, a STEM education program, a military football game, and a Military Family Day.
This guide covers how to plan a visit: the dates, where and when the free ship tours run, where to watch the Sea & Air Parade along the Embarcadero, and how to get to the bayfront. One clarification up front — unlike San Francisco or Seattle, Fleet Week San Diego is not a Blue Angels air-show event; the region’s marquee jet demonstration is the separate MCAS Miramar Air Show held in the fall. Fleet Week San Diego is run by its own nonprofit; NavyWeek.org is an independent guide and is not affiliated with it or the U.S. Navy.

PARADE OF SHIPS
The Sea & Air Parade is Fleet Week San Diego’s signature moment on the water — a procession of Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard vessels across San Diego Bay, with military aircraft flyovers overhead, viewed from the Embarcadero and North Harbor Drive against the downtown skyline and Coronado. It is the closest thing the event has to an "air" element, but it is a flyover accompanying the ships rather than a full aerobatic demonstration.
For an actual Blue Angels demonstration, San Diegans look to the MCAS Miramar Air Show, a separate event at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar typically held in the fall. It is one of the largest military air shows in the country and frequently features the Blue Angels — but it has its own dates, location, and admission, distinct from Fleet Week.
FREE SHIP TOURS
Free public ship tours are the heart of Fleet Week San Diego, running November 13–15 at Broadway Pier on the downtown Embarcadero. Visitors can walk aboard Navy ships — which in a fleet concentration like San Diego can include destroyers, amphibious ships, and other vessels — with active-duty Sailors on deck to talk about their missions. Tours are free and first-come, first-served.
Go early — lines at Broadway Pier can be very long on the weekend. All visitors age 18 and older must bring a government-issued photo ID to board, and the usual security rules apply: no large backpacks, glass containers, high heels, or pets.
What to know before you board
- Bring a government-issued photo ID (required for ages 18+).
- Arrive early — weekend lines at Broadway Pier are long.
- No large backpacks or bags; no on-site storage.
- No glass containers and no high heels (steep ladders and steel decks).
- No pets (service animals excepted).
BEST PLACES TO WATCH
With no air show, the best spots at Fleet Week San Diego are the places to tour the ships and watch the Sea & Air Parade along the bay. These free Embarcadero and harbor vantage points work during the event and year-round for fleet-watching in a Navy town.
The hub of Fleet Week — ship tours, displays, and a front-row view of the Sea & Air Parade.
Bayfront lawn beside the USS Midway with wide views across the harbor.
Shops and boardwalk along the bay just south of the parade route.
Across the bay in Coronado for a skyline-backed view of the ships and flyovers.
Point Loma-side parks looking back across the harbor toward downtown.
High ground at the harbor mouth — the spot to see ships transit in and out of San Diego Bay.
GETTING THERE & PARKING
- The MTS Trolley is the easiest way to the bayfront — ride the Blue or Green Line to Santa Fe Depot or the Seaport Village stop, both a short walk from Broadway Pier.
- Parking downtown and along the Embarcadero is limited and pricey during Fleet Week weekends; transit or rideshare avoids the worst of it.
- The San Diego Bay ferry connects the Embarcadero with Coronado, a scenic way to view the harbor and reach the Coronado side.
- For Cabrillo National Monument and the Point Loma harbor-mouth views, you’ll need to drive — there’s a park entry fee and parking can fill on weekends.
- If you’re also planning the MCAS Miramar Air Show, note it’s a separate event well inland — check its own site for dates, tickets, and parking.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
San Diego traces the roots of fleet week to 1935, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt reviewed the U.S. Fleet in San Diego Bay — a gathering many consider the origin of the American fleet-week tradition. The modern Fleet Week San Diego has been held annually since 1997, organized by a dedicated nonprofit to connect the public with the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
San Diego is arguably the most Navy-defined city in the country: it is home to one of the largest concentrations of naval power in the world, the Navy is the region’s biggest employer, and naval aviation, surface ships, and the Marine Corps all have deep footprints here. Fleet Week is the annual public expression of that identity.
Beyond ship tours and the Sea & Air Parade, Fleet Week San Diego has grown to include a STEM education program for students, an innovation showcase, athletic events, and a Military Family Day — reflecting the organizers’ emphasis on education and community as much as spectacle.
