MISSION DOSSIER

Navy Week returns to Omaha during the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field — a 75+ year tradition drawing 350,000+ fans and national ESPN coverage. The pairing of America's pastime with America's Navy creates an electrifying atmosphere as sailors join thousands of baseball enthusiasts in downtown Omaha.

Beyond the ballpark, the Strike Group VR experience and STEM exhibits engage visitors at local museums, while the Navy's direct connection to Offutt Air Force Base — headquarters of U.S. Strategic Command, which controls the submarine-launched ballistic missile leg of the nuclear triad — gives Omaha Navy Week special strategic significance.

Anchor Event

The NCAA Division I Men's College World Series (CWS) is the championship tournament of college baseball, held in Omaha continuously since 1950 — over 75 years. Played at Charles Schwab Field Omaha (capacity ~24,000), the 2026 CWS runs June 12–22, overlapping almost entirely with Navy Week. A 25-year contract extension keeps CWS in Omaha through 2035. The event draws 350,000+ total attendance and national ESPN coverage.

Local Military Context

Omaha's military significance is extraordinary. Offutt Air Force Base (~10 miles south in Bellevue) is headquarters of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), one of 11 Unified Combatant Commands. USSTRATCOM controls the entire U.S. nuclear arsenal — strategic nuclear deterrence, global strike, missile defense, and space operations.

The Navy connection is direct: the Navy provides the submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) leg of the nuclear triad via Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines, a crucial USSTRATCOM asset. Offutt also has deep WWII history — the Enola Gay and Bockscar (B-29s that dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki) were assembled there. Omaha's metro population is ~1 million with a strong veteran community.
