The 2010 Little Rock Navy Week Schedule of Events, May 24-30

All of the detailed events with dates, times and locations are open to the public unless otherwise noted. Please be aware that all dates and times can change with little notice due to operational schedules and other factors. Please check this schedule frequently for any changes.

Monday, May 24, 2010

9:30 a.m. – 11:00a.m. Navy Week Procolamation 
Rear Adm. Raymond English, Director, Joint Reserve Forces, J-9, Defense Logistics Agency,  will witness the official Navy Week Proclamation as North Little Rock’s Mayor, Patrick Henry Hays, declares May 24-30 as Navy Week. This FREE event will kick off with a performance by Navy Band Mid-South’s “Ceremonial” band.  It is sure to be a highlight at today’s event as they perform the perfect mix of yesterday and today's biggest hits. Enjoy the show!!!

11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. North Little Rock Riverside Rotary Club Luncheon 
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Rear Adm. Raymond English, Director, Joint Reserve Forces, J-9, Defense Logistics Agency, will be the guest speaker. He’ll be joined by Lt. Cmdr Mike Weyenberg, Commanding Officer, Navy Operation Support Center, Little Rock.

11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m Jacksonville Rotary Club Luncheon  
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor.  Cmdr. Michael Neuser, Commanding Officer, Navy Recruiting District Nashville, will be the guest speaker.  
Location:  500 Gregory St., Jacksonville

3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. John McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital 
Patients at John McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital will be getting a surprise visit today from Sailors. 
Location: 4300 West 7th St.

6:45 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Conway Rotary Club Breakfast 
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Rear Adm. Wendi Carpenter, Navy Warfare Development Command, will be the guest speaker. She’ll be joined by Cmdr. Michael Neuser, Commanding Officer, Navy Recruiting District Nashville.  
Location:  University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave.

11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Little Rock Downtown Rotary Club Luncheon 
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Rear Adm. Wendi Carpenter, Navy Warfare Development Command, will be the guest speaker.  
Location:  7 Statehouse Plaza

11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. North Little Rock Rotary Club Luncheon 
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Cmdr Michael Neuser, Commanding Officer, Navy Recruiting District Nashville, will be the guest speaker.

2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Caps for Kids
Young patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital will be getting a surprise visit today from Sailors in the U.S. Navy. But that's not all. Each patient will also get an official U.S. Navy ship ball cap.
Location:  800 Marshall St.

2:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Dalton Whetstone Boys and Girls Club
Sailors will interact and have some fun with the children and the Boys and Girls Club today.
Location:  46 Harrow Dr. 

 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. First Tee of Central Arkansas
Sailors will interact and have some fun with the First Tee participants today. Come out and experience the fun!
Location:  1 First Tee Way.

7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Sherwood Rotary Club
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Rear Adm. Wendi Carpenter, Navy Warfare Development Command, will be the guest speaker.
Location:  2215 Wildwood Ave.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. West Little Rock Rotary Club 
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Rear Adm. Wendi Carpenter, Navy Warfare Development Command, will be the guest speaker. 
Location:  500 South University Ave.

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Towbin Central Arkansas Veterans Hospital 
Patients and veterans at Towbin Central Arkansas Veterans Hospital will be getting a surprise visit today from Sailors - including a Rear Admiral - in the U.S. Navy.
Location:  2200 Fort Roots Dr.

7:00 p.m. – TBD Dickey-Stadium Park / Travelers Baseball 
A Navy vocalist will perform the National Anthem and a Navy Rear Admiral will throw out the first pitch.  Come out and enjoy the festivities!

7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Little Rock Metro Rotary Club 
The Rotary Club is meeting today and the Navy’s finest will be the guests of honor. Rear Adm. Wendi Carpenter, Navy Warfare Development Command, will be the guest speaker.

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Habitat for Humanity Building Project
You support our Sailors and today, our Sailors want to show they support Little Rock. Today, Sailors will be sawing, hammering and painting to help build a home for a worthy family. We’re teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to say thank you Little Rock.

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Watershed Human and Community Development Project
Sailors roll up their sleeves to help with a variety of projects in support of Little Rock.

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Reading with the Kids / Central Arkansas Main Library
This evening, kids at the Central Arkansas Main Library will get a rare treat. U.S. Navy Sailors will be reading to the kids. After story time, the Sailors will talk to the kids about what it’s like to be in the Navy and answer a few questions. Have fun kids!
Location:  100 Rock St.


11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Navy Band “Freedom” Performs at the Little Rock Zoo
“Freedom” is a dynamic, high-energy group of eight professional Navy musicians, specializing in a variety of today’s popular music. These versatile entertainers perform music from contemporary styles such as Hard Rock, Rap, Country (and Western) and Classic Rock. Come out and enjoy the show!
Location:  1 Jonesboro Dr.


5:00 p.m. – TBD. U.S. Navy F/A-18s on Display at Grider Field
The F/A-18 Hornet is a modern, all-weather, carrier strike fighter. It is an aircraft designed to fill the roles of fighter aircraft and attack aircraft. Come out and meet the pilots that fly these awesome jets.
Location:  200 E. 8th St., Pine Bluff, AR



6:00 p.m. – 7:10 p.m. Dickey-Stadium Park / Travelers Baseball
The Navy Band “Freedom” will perform for the Travelers’ fans at the stadium this evening. Also, a Navy vocalist will perform the National Anthem and a Sailor will throw out the first pitch.  Come out and enjoy the festivities!

Other events not open to the public.

Throughout Little Rock Navy Week, our Flag Officer and other special guests will do presentations and make visits to various local schools, hospitals and other civic organizations.

Any local school, hospital or civic group that desires to coordinate this type of event, please contact Lt. Cmdr. Reginald Jackson at 501-952-9076 or email reginald.jackson@navyweek.org

To the Media: Please note that if you want view or report on any of these event it must be cleared by the individual school administrative office, hospital public relations staff or civic organization.
